Methodological design

The present research is based on the quantitative approach; children from 9 to 10 years old will be randomly selected to analyze the progress of their computational thinking after acquiring basic learning of block programming applying techniques such as focus groups, surveys, etc. Trying to define this type of study it is found that:

"The quantitative methodology is a set of techniques used to study the variables of interest of a given population" (Hueso & Cascant, 2012, p. 3) In such a way the importance of statistics as a means of obtaining findings in this research is highlighted.

It is desired to carry out the observation through a small course where guided classes will be provided through the code.org platform and the meet platform; these classes will be taught by teachers of the educational institution José Miguel de Restrepo y Puerta to which the students belong, with a duration of one to two hours, these tutorials will use a mainly practical methodology to achieve a better appropriation of computer knowledge of block programming by the students.

Thus, this research is based on theoretical argumentation and is complemented by the collection of information in the context of the study population.

It should note that:

"quantitative analysis techniques are also widely used to analyze information obtained through qualitative techniques" (Hueso & Cascant, 2012, p. 3), gaining relevance qualitative variables such as the children's behavior and emotions when interacting with block programming.

Using a focus group is intended to evidence the generalization of the proposal, being this the influence of block programming as stated by (Del Canto & Silva Silva Silva, 2013) "They are strong in external validity, what they find is generalizable to the population" (p. 31).

On the other hand, the quantitative methodology is based on statistics that reflect the data obtained through the data collection techniques, thus allowing the obtaining of truthful findings for the research around the problem posed.
